Telling Tails — Ravens vs Leg Rovers [A]

Well…derby day round 2. You have all heard of some famous ones. Liverpool vs Everton, Celtic vs Rangers and Arsenal vs Tottenham to name a select few but nothing comes close to the second leg of Ramsbury CC vs Legrovers CC!

A moody overcast evening awaited us with a pitch graced with a solid foundation but some light vegetation on top. Unpredictability was the name of the game with bounce and carry for the spinners and the occasional daisy cutter for the bowlers.

Ramsbury kicked off proceedings with the ball. Warwick and Seano to open things up with some lovely use of the slope and unpredictable bounce producing a flurry of catches (I want the brand of glue we all had on our hands..would stick the Great Wall of China together) and with it the Legrovers were quickly 3 down.

There was all sorts going on. Bouncers, yorkers and more importantly dot balls…keeping the runs down was the aim of the game and we were doing this fantastically.

Notable performances to Laurence, Jamie, Ian and Malcom for some tight bowling to keep their bowling averages up and the run rate down.

Legrovers finished their innings just breaking a tonne of runs for their team score 🏏💯

Onto the batting…

The light was fading and the rain was spitting..Sam and Will to open up proceedings. Cover drives and backward cuts were a thing of beauty until Sam left the crease early shortly followed by Will. An unpredictable wicket causing costly for our opening pair.

Jamie came in and our business plan was back on track, joined by Bart for some boundaries before an early departure bringing Sean to the crease for some fun.

With Jamie smashing his way to 25* it gave yours truly a long walk out to the middle to play attempted shots that somewhat resembled teeing off at the Masters minus the accuracy and carry! Nicking a few runs here and there. But the total was growing closer and closer bringing on Laurence to deal the death blow to Legrovers hopes of victory 🏆

All in all a great all round performance from the team with both bat and ball and another win chalked up against our local rivals…on to the next one! (back to you Tommy and Chris) 🤩

P.S. The beers afterwards in the Horseshoe 10/10!

[Big thanks to Harry on captain duty and reporting duty, legendary!]
