Telling Tails — U11 vs Calne
It wasn’t perfect cricket weather, but the teams were eager and we decided to give it a go!
Ramsbury won the toss and decided to field first, so Calne took up their batting positions.
A strong start bowling by Heston, followed by a superb over by Finley, managing to bowl no wides or no balls and taking 2 wickets – well done Finley!
Henry followed with another great effort, followed by Max and Oliver, who also managed to take a wicket each.
Up next was Leo, who managed to bag another wicket, followed by some clean bowling by Clarke, who managed an over with no wides or no balls – well done Clarke!
Hugo and Alexander followed, doing a great job of keeping the runs at bay.
Back again to Heston, who by now had warmed up – a clean over of bowling for his second and third overs, taking another 2 wickets.
Another good over from Finley and well done to Henry and Clarke for taking wickets in their second overs.
Some fantastic fielding on display from Ramsbury with notable moments from Finley with an early catch (bravo!) and Heston racing someone to the stumps to get them out.
Special recognition to our wicket keeper Cassian today, who landed a superb catch, but also for his quick reactions in stumping out another 3 Calne players!
We’ve definitely improved our bowling, but there’s still work to be done – Calne were awarded 72 runs as a result of the 36 wides and no balls! Luckily we were on the ball today (pardon the pun) and took an impressive 10 wickets.
Calne finished the first innings on 95/10
With Calne bowling next, Heston and Henry were our first batters. A good start to the innings with them hitting a 4 each and earning 17 runs between them.
Calne’s bowling was very clean though and we weren’t earning runs from wides and no balls – we had to do it the old fashioned way and hit some bangers – bring on Cassian! Hitting 3 x 4’s and the only 6 of the match, he was the standout batter of the day, with an impressive final score of 26 runs – well done Cassian!
Another strong performance from Hugo and Clarke, with Max and Oliver also hitting 4’s, the run score was rocketing!
Alexander, and Leo also put in a sterling effort and finally Finley, who got another 4 and also managed several runs.
Calne managed to take a total of 7 wickets, all with their superb bowling.
When we consider Calne only gave away 26 runs with their 13 wides/no balls, we can see how good our batters really were – we finished the second innings with 109/7. Communication was great and they were quick to snatch runs at every opportunity.
Well done to all the team today for putting up with the ‘not so ideal’ cricket weather! And most of all, well done for all the encouragement you give each other and enjoying the moment – it’s a pleasure watching you grow as a team!
