Telling Tails — U11 vs Brougton Gifford

Bank Holiday Monday and another match for our U11 Colts against Brougton Gifford, with it also being our first time hosting at home. Apart from the Cresswell boys, it was a debut match for the rest of the team. Not quite the cricket weather of last week, but it was dry and we were keen none the less.

Captained on the day by Heston, we weren’t so lucky with the toss (or rather “Rock Paper Scissors”) - Broughton Gifford won and decided to field first.

James and Heston were our first batting pair and despite Broughton Gifford opening with some good clean bowling (only 1 wide), our batters managed to snatch a few runs – well done boys for putting yourselves out their first and getting us on the board!

Alex and Leo were up next and despite some tricky balls, they added to the score and managed to protect their wickets. In contrast to our last match, after 6 overs no wickets had been taken.

Up next we had Sam and George – another strong performance, bagging a few runs, but Broughton Gifford struck gold and managed to get 2 wickets – unlucky boys!

Cassian and Hugo were our 4th batting pair – a solid performance and our first 4’s of the game! Our top scoring pair of the day, both were really eager to get the runs with Hugo hitting 2 x 4’s, and Cassian producing 4 x 4’s and a combined runs total of 39 for the pair – well done boys! The bowling from our opposition was still good though and they managed to get another wicket.

Our final pair was Finley and Ben. Broughton Gifford stepped it up a bit and managed to get another couple of wickets, but that didn’t deter Finley and Ben – they were taking opportunities where they could and made a solid contribution to the runs.

Ramsbury finished the first innings on 281 with Broughton Gifford taking 6 Wickets!

A quick drink break and we were ready to get going again – we needed to keep warm to be honest!

Heston opened the bowling for Ramsbury – no wides or no balls – that’s a big improvement on last week!

Up next was Hugo, followed by Ben, with another solid performance from both, taking 3 wickets between them – good work boys!

Some beautiful bowling on display from Sam – he managed to hit the wickets, but the Umpire declared it a “no ball” – unlucky!

Stand out bowler of the day was Finley, who managed to not only take a wicket and not give away any wides or no balls, but he also bowled a maiden over – congratulations Finley!

Great bowling too from James, who bagged 2 wickets in his first over – well done!

Alex and George also put in a sterling effort, as did Cassian and Leo – well done to everyone for being brave enough to get up and give it a go.

Broughton Gifford finished the second innings on 222, with Ramsbury taking 7 wickets.

Ben and Cassian shared wicket keeping duties this week and both showed great prowess in their position, with Cassian managing to stump 2 of the opposition.

It was a really fun match to watch and great to see everyone contributing to the score line. We bowled half the amount of wides we did last week, so that’s definitely progression - high praise to you all!
